Got the SMH for $95 out of the FLiK sandbox. I mostly play rec and ladder nights, so the missing USAP approval doesn't bother me. If you play sanctioned tournaments though, you can't use it. Plays like a cannon. Plush foam feel, quieter than my old honeycomb paddle, and the face is gritty enough that my topspin drives and serves really kick. First couple weeks a lot went long, especially returns. I had to shorten my swing. It's light in the hand and quick at the kitchen, hand battles feel easy. Resets off hard drives are better than I expected for this much pop. Grip is skinny for my hands so I added an overgrip. No warranty on sandbox paddles, so we'll see how the core holds up.

Big Al·Advanced·singles and doubles·1–6 months

71, I play four mornings a week, all doubles. Came off a basic polymer honeycomb paddle I'd used for years. The widebody shape is what sold me, I'm not as quick as I was and the wider face makes up for it. In hand battles at the kitchen I'm getting the paddle up in time where before I was late. Resets come off soft and land short. It's not a cannon on drives, my partner's elongated hits harder, and it makes a hollow sort of sound off the face that took a few days to get used to. Grip is on the short side, fine for me with a one handed backhand. About 40 hours on it and the grit still feels rough under my thumb.

Ex tennis player, so I like to drive the ball. This paddle has serious pop. My first week a lot of drives and returns sailed long and I had to learn to roll more topspin on them, which the gritty face makes easy. The kitchen is where I work harder. Dinks and resets come off hotter than I want, and it's head heavy, so quick hand battles feel a hair late. I put a strip of lead tape down by the throat and that helped some. About four months in at three days a week. No dead spots so far, though it feels a bit livelier than when it was new.

I'm 62 and play 3.5 doubles four mornings a week. Dinks and drops are my whole game, and this paddle just sits the ball in the kitchen. My resets off hard drives finally stay low instead of popping up. Way more spin on my serve than my old paddle too. It's heavier toward the head than I'm used to, so in fast hand battles at the net I'm a touch late. And it's not USA Pickleball approved, so I can't use it at our sanctioned tournament. Check that before you buy.

Went with the 16mm. My old paddle was stiff and kept popping my drops up for the other team to smash, with this one dinks and resets just settle into the kitchen. I get a lot more topspin on my rolls and my partner noticed it right away. Drives are fine but it's not a cannon, which suits me. The face picks up grime so I wipe it with a damp cloth after we play. Around month three the edge guard started lifting a little at the top and support wasn't much help, a dab of glue sorted it. Knocked off one star for that.

Played the 14mm for about 8 months, doubles around 3.8. Hand speed at the kitchen is great and spin is decent, but the face started going dead near the throat after maybe 5 months and the pop dropped off noticeably. Had to replace it. For what it costs i expected it to last longer.

Took a few sessions to get used to it, beginning was a bit hard to control but by the 4th session felt much better, with better control, big sweep spot, fun and loud paddle.

“very light, balanced feel, respect to RPM for always having head light 14mm’s First 2/3 sessions with the Jade were pretty awful. SUPER jarring on mishits, sweet spot was tiny, bit hard to control, bit of an ugly feel. Felt like an all gas no brakes type of paddle. Wasn’t impressed with the spin even though I’m a VERY spin, and finesse oriented player. Maybe by the 4th session it broke in, it’s a very different paddle. Sweet spot got bigger, spin got better (likely due to softening up), control got easier, bit more predictable on where the ball was going to go. Maybe it needs more breaking in, but I still can’t really justify $300 in price. Sounds very loud, VERY loud and fun paddle, probably makes you think you’re hitting harder than you actually are”

Very balanced and easiest paddle he ever played with, quick and maneuverable

“This paddle was buttery smooth! Very well-balanced across all aspects of the game. Hands down one of the best, if not THE best and easiest, swinging paddles I’ve used for one-handed backhands. It felt incredibly natural and fluid through the swing while remaining quick and maneuverable during hand battles. I enjoyed it significantly more than the Perseus Pro V. Spin was perfectly fine, although I somehow couldn’t land an ATP with it during play.”

Doesn't love the Coral Pro: it has good spin but feels fairly poppy, and they find the face can be inconsistent. Would suggest a newer player stick with a softer paddle.

“I don’t love the coral pro, while it has good spin I think it’s fairly poppy and I don’t see a player of 3.5 months really taking advantage of the spin in many ways.”

4.5 player made the Spitfire Elongated their main: controllable despite more pop, impressive spin, good power, a bit head heavy.

After about 8 hours the Spitfire Widebody has lots of pop, great spin and plays light and fast at the kitchen; a hollow sound but a great deal.

The Spitfire Elongated feels head heavy and slow at the kitchen even with weights low, but drives are top notch and spin comes easily.

“I have the elongated, weights on sides but more towards the bottom since its head heavy, and feels heavy for kitchen for me though drives are top notch and spins are easier”

Even after adding weight to the Pegasus Jelly Bean 2, its put-away power stayed frustratingly low.

“I had to add quite a bit of weight to the jellybean 2 to improve twist weight, which added more pop on softer shots. However the put away power was still very low.”

Disliked the Vapor Power 2's muted feel and found its control the worst of the foam paddles they tried.

Switching from the Pegasus Jelly Bean 2, they find the Ultré Power 2's control better than expected with a massive sweet spot.

“After experiencing the Ultre’ I will probably never play widebody again, and the control on the power 2 is much better than expected. Sweet spot on the Ultre is MASSIVE.”

Tried the Vapor and Ultré Power 2 and disliked their muted feel; they had the worst control of any foam paddle they've used, with balls sailing long or popping up.
